Biography
Ben Smith is our resident artist, working from his studio at AC Gallery, Skipton.
Artist statement
“I make art prints and greetings cards of socially awkward sheep, often on their way to bars and beer gardens, in a series called Sheep-Town.
As a Skipton-based artist, I wanted to reference the town itself through the name of the series, paired with a slightly surreal commentary on people socialising, shared experiences, and modern life in the North.
The work is deliberately understated, allowing the titles to deliver an unexpected punchline and create connections with the viewer.
I hope the work raises a smile and rewards a second look.”

A phrase borrowed from painting — where artists work “in the open air”, soaking up light and atmosphere before it disappears, often in a single, rapid session.
