Biography

The much loved Brighouse based singer/songwriter is now creating a stir in the art world. Roger went to art college before his singing career took centre stage for the last few years. Now he is bringing his art skills to the fore with his first exhibition of paintings with AC Gallery, Huddersfield.

A graduate of Batley School of Art and the recipient of the John James Hamer Award from the Huddersfield Art Society, Roger’s pictures are inspired by his songs and his experiences as a working musician.

Familiar local scenes depict people, shop fronts, pubs and other buildings in a style which demonstrates a flair and enthusiasm for the subject which is uniquely his own.

His work also includes artwork inspired by Peter Brook, the late Pennine Landscape Painter whom Roger befriended after writing a song about the famous local artist. Roger considers his music and artwork to be a real labour of love:

I like to draw and paint pictures which end up looking a bit like drawings, a bit like prints and a bit like paintings all at the same time. You could say the style is quite simplistic, almost childlike and I’d agree. The artwork, like my music, is ultimately celebratory and intended to inspire, inform and entertain.
